Frank Kameny, a local and national LGBT Rights Pioneer, was found dead at his home on October 11, 2011, which was also National Coming Out Day. A recipient of the DOJ Pride Gerald B. Roemer Community Service Award, he was at the Department as recently as October 5th for a screening of Gay Pioneers. His signs, part of the Kameny papers project and now at the Smithsonian have been displayed in the halls of Justice before as well. His life is a testament to striving for greatness, equality, and living openly. Needless to say, he will be missed. The full obituary is available from the Washington Post.
