On the evening of April 4, 2019, the Attorney General sent the Board a letter in response to our letter dated March 27, 2019. In his letter, the Attorney General thanked DOJ Pride for our outreach and apprised us of the fact that he signed an EEO Statement on behalf of the Department earlier that day—a statement that affirms the Department’s commitment not to discriminate on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity, among other characteristics. We are heartened by the issuance of his EEO Statement, which will benefit everyone who works at the Department.
Additionally, the Attorney General expressed concern about our evidence of low morale among LGBTQ employees, and stated a desire to work with DOJ Pride to ensure that the Department is an inclusive and productive workplace for all employees. The Board is very appreciative that the Attorney General is taking seriously the issues raised by DOJ Pride, and we look forward to working with the Attorney General and his staff to build on these steps to ensure that Department is the vibrant and welcoming workplace that it deserves to be.
