Today the DOJ Civil Rights Division and DOJ Pride presented a panel discussion about the successful prosecution of four defendants for hate crimes and other charges after they used the social media dating platform Grindr to target gay men for violent crimes in Texas. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke joined Rose Gibson, Deputy Criminal Chief, Civil Rights Division; Kathryn Gilbert, Trial Attorney, Criminal Section, Civil Rights Division; and Nicole Dana, Assistant U.S. Attorney, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Texas for a robust conversation about these cases.
